Medication for opioid use disorder training opportunity

We conduct an annual comprehensive population health assessment that helps identify key health priorities. One key health plan priority is to increase access to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) for members with an opioid use disorder (OUD). MOUD, previously referred to as medication-assisted therapy (MAT), is an evidence-based approach that uses medication, such as buprenorphine, as part of the treatment plan for individuals with OUD. We would like to support you in completing an MOUD training and will compensate you for your time.

Having physicians outside of the behavioral health network, such as PCPs and OB/GYNs, prescribe MOUD is an important tool in helping people with OUD get access to the best possible care. In addition to improving the success of OUD treatment, perinatal MOUD reduces the risk of maternal and infant morbidity.

While all physicians attest to controlled substances training as part of the requirements for DEA licensure, some of our providers have expressed that additional training and resources would make them more comfortable in using these treatments. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) developed MOUD training, available via the Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS) online platform. The training focuses on the treatment of OUDs with medications as part of a multidisciplinary approach to care.

The eight-hour training is available at no cost. Physicians may sign up for an eight module online course and complete it at their own pace.

Physicians who complete the training will be compensated for their time by the health plan ($800 upon completion). Payment will be issued to the provider group (or other contracted entity). The group/contracted entity will distribute the funds to the individual providers who completed the training.

The ability to screen and treat members for OUD and be active participants in their care aligns with our focus, and the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) on whole person care and the integration of physical and behavioral health.

We encourage you to refer members to our Behavioral Health Case Management team at FLBHRefferals@SimplyHealthCarePlans.com to ensure we connect all members to behavioral health services if needed.

We hope you see the value and benefits of becoming an active MOUD prescriber knowing you have our support and encouragement behind you.
